At this clinic, we will explore what it means to provide effective feedback in tough situations, which require emotional self-regulation, suspending blame and judgment, and finding ways to balance accountability with compassion. The trickiness of these situations could be related to current work performance problems; longstanding behavioral patterns that have not been fully addressed; personal issues getting in the way of work; racial, gender, or class dynamics; conflict avoidance; or a myriad of other challenges for supervisors who want to be humane while also moving the work forward.

The clinic will take the form of a conversation between Amadee and Sara, both of whom have extensive experience in practicing and teaching skills for liberatory management. There will be some presentation of content, role play demonstration and opportunities for participants to connect with and review the skills in breakout groups.

While focused primarily on dynamics in supervision, this session will also be relevant to peer-to-peer feedback. You can expect to explore:

  • Getting ready to give difficult feedback

  • How supervision—or feedback—can be liberatory

  • What it means to communicate directly about the impact of problematic behavior

  • How to provide feedback that is neither punitive nor enabling

  • How to address race or other identity or power-based dynamics

If you are not able to pay for a ticket, email events@dragonfly-partners.com and we will figure something out! We want you to be able to attend. Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot today!
